IN THE SILENCE BETWEEN COCHISE AND DOUGLAS

IN THE SILENCE BETWEEN COCHISE AND DOUGLAS

WE TOOK OFF DOWN US 191 ONE MORNING AND HEADED SOUTH BETWEEN COCHISE AND DOUGLAS AZ. I WANTED TO PULL OVER TO PHOTOGRAPH SOME WHITE PRICKLY POPPIES THAT WERE BLOOMING ALONG THE ROADSIDE. THEY'RE MY FAVORITE. THIS IS ONE OF THOSE SPACES WHERE YOU STEP OUT OF YOUR CAR, WALK OUT INTO THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND REALIZE JUST HOW "OUT THERE" YOU ARE. I LOVE THAT FEELING AND FIND A LOT OF SOLACE IN THE SOLITUDE. AS YOU LOOK AROUND YOU CAN SEE WHY IT WAS APTLY NAMED THE BASIN AND RANGE REGION. IT WAS CLOSE TO SILENT OUT THERE OTHER THAN THE SOUND OF THE GRAVEL UNDER MY FEET.

THIS PIECE, FOR ME, IS A LOVE LETTER TO SOLITUDE AND THE VASTNESS OF THE DESERT.

CHAINSTITCH EMBROIDERY ON LINEN AND INDIGO DYED TEXTURED COTTON. 21.5" LONG (INCLUDING HANG TABS) BY 19.25" WIDE. BACKED WITH COTTON CANVAS AND INCLUDES A HANDWRITTEN LABEL WITH CHAINSTITCHED DETAIL.
