THE STORY BANNER

I WANT TO TELL YOUR STORY.

Storytelling has long been a part of the legacy of chainstitch embroidery. In my time of working in custom western wear, telling the story of the wearer through stitch was one of the most special aspects of the job. The idea that has stuck with me the most is this - I want to create high quality pieces that tell the story of people or places. In a world where it often feels like so much is disposable, I want to create pieces that will be cherished forever and become heirloom pieces, staying in families for generations to come.

Introducing The Story Banner. This is a custom embroidered and constructed wall hanging that features all of the special details of what makes you or your loved one who they are. I want to stitch your family farm and the various flora from the land. I want to stitch the house you grew up in, your favorite horse from childhood, your grandmother's flowers that you remember from her garden. You get the idea.

This is the perfect, one of a kind gift for weddings, anniversaries, or any other occasion that warrants a special something. But don't let this stop you from getting one for you and your personal story! I certainly won't stop you. Is this something you're interested in? Let's talk about it.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

WELL, Here is an example. Hopefully this gets some ideas flowing about how I can make a special piece for you. The piece featured here is a piece that I created to celebrate ten years of marriage with my partner. Here's a little more on the details:

OUR HOME

This is the first home we have purchased together. We first started dating in this house. I had moved here after my last relationship and my partner, Trevor, had just moved back from a short stint in Boston. We happened to land here at the same time. We moved in and out of this house for about ten years before buying it in 2020. I will love this old house forever.

MY HOMETOWN

The more I am away from this place, the more I realize the ways in which it shaped me. My hometown has changed a lot over the years, but this is what I envision when I think of it: morning dew on prairie grass, live oaks that catch first light, dewberries along the fence lines, and pinkladies along the roadsides in spring.

MY PARTNER'S HOMETOWN

Trevor is from Tucson, Arizona. He's a desert rat through and through. It's honestly one of the things that intrigued me about him in the first place. It felt like he was from a place so foreign to me. It felt like a another planet. Desert towns are like that in a way. Like their own little islands. Falling in love with Trev was also falling in love with his home.

OUR FURRY FRIENDS - PAST AND PRESENT

It was really important to us that we included our sweet pups and our cat in this representation of what was important to us. We. Are. Obsessed. There was something really cathartic about adding in our sweet border collie, Roadie, that passed in 2019. She was a big part of our lives throughout the early part of our relationship, and was the first pup companion I had throughout my post college years.

THE GREEN HERONS

We often refer to our house as the Green Heron House. We live less than a half a mile from the San Marcos River. It is the reason we still live in Texas. Living this close to water means we have the privilege of encountering several species of birds that make their home here in San Marcos, as well as those who pass through during migration. There is a pair of green herons that show up on our property every Spring and it feels like it signals the beginning of the season. We are so lucky to be able to witness this little window into their lives.

OTHER IMPORTANT FEATURES

There are several other easter eggs in our story banner, but a couple of other things of note are our wedding date, Chiricahua Mountain lichen representing a place that is incredibly special to us, and also the inclusion of Texas wild rice that connects the two of us together. This particular species of wild rice only grows within the first mile or so of the San Marcos River that starts in the city of San Marcos, where we make our home.
